Chapter 5 (Society & Inequality)
While reading Chapter 5, I found it interesting when it read, "Overtime, this system of selecting administrators evolved into the world's professional civil service." I found this quote interesting because although humans started off without leaders they grew over time. I assume they did this because they felt that it would better there civilizations at the time. Another quote that caught my attention was, "Chinese society was unique in the ancient world in the extent to which it was shaped by the actions of the state." This caught my attention because it showed how China's ways of living were so unique that it changed the way others lived around the states. Lastly, "In constructing their societies, however, these second wave civilizations differed substantially from one another" was interesting because while people constructed their societies they made it different from others which made it unique during the second wave.
