Intro to Part Two & Ch 3 (State & Empire)

While reading Intro to part 2 and chapter 3, I found it interesting when it said, " Even though these First Civilizations broke down, there was no going back." This quote was interesting because it shows that humans continued to make grow together. Even though at first they did not succeed they continue to try and build something for themselves and eventually it all worked out by coming up with all the tools and ideas that we use in the present day. Another quote that caught my attention while reading was, "Civilizations as a form of human community proved durable and resilient as well as a periodically fragile." This quote was very interesting to me because although humans in earlier times  built a strong community it had its flaws, but those flaws we able to be fixed with newer generations and they make the communities better and allowing it to grow as well. Lastly, "In all of these ways, the world became quite different from what it had been in the age of the first civilizations, even though fundamental economic and social patterns had not substantially changed "caught my eye because you never really think about how times changed and how better they got. People are so caught up in their lives they don't realize what it took for society had to go through in the past to be where it's at right now.

Chapter 2 Documents

While reading chapter 2 documents, I found the picture of the Man from Mohenjo Daro interesting because in the reading it was said that this monument was found by archeologist that had no idea what it was, since they have never came across "warfare, conquest, or the seizingof captives; no monuments to celebrate powerful rulers". Later they came to interpret it as a powerful elite ruler who were successful and people looked up to. When I first saw the image I thought it was a statue of a rich important person who people looked up to. I thought it was someone powerful because of the way he looked. It seemed as if he was well dressed and had some sort of crown and he was well groomed. After the monument was found it had scholars left with unanswered questions, but they finally came to the conclusion that this monument was not a single ruler. It was meant to represent a small elite group of successful rulers.

Chapter 9 (The Worlds of Islam)

While reading Chapter 9, I found it interesting when it read, "As in China, Muslim societies over much of the past century have been seeking to overcome several hundred years of humiliating Europeon intrusion and to find their place in the modern world." I found this quote to be interesting because Muslims today are still trying to seek place in todays society after so many years of trying to overcome the past. Another quote that caught my attention was, "It did not take long for the immense transformation occurring in Arabia to have an impact beyond the peninsula." This caught my attention because of how fast the change of Arabia impacted beyond the penisula. If you truly think about it one countries changes can drastically change another country's way for the better or for the worse debting on the change. Chapter 10 (The Worlds of Christendom)

While reading Chapter 10, I found it interesting when it read, "In early centuries and beyond, the Christian movement was rent by theologicalical controversy and political division." I found this quote to be interesting because I didn't know that the Christian movement was that way in the past, because in today's society it is all religion and ones beliefs. Another quote that caught my attention was, "This mounting enthusiasm for ration inquiry stimulated European scholars to seek out original Greek texts, particularly those of Aristole." This caught my attention because many classes today use Greek text to teach others about the past. If you truly think about it, many students have done research and done papers on Aristole, so alot of what he wrote was useful and meaningful.
