Chapter 9 (The Worlds of Islam)

While reading Chapter 9, I found it interesting when it read, "As in China, Muslim societies over much of the past century have been seeking to overcome several hundred years of humiliating Europeon intrusion and to find their place in the modern world." I found this quote to be interesting because Muslims today are still trying to seek place in todays society after so many years of trying to overcome the past. Another quote that caught my attention was, "It did not take long for the immense transformation occurring in Arabia to have an impact beyond the peninsula." This caught my attention because of how fast the change of Arabia impacted beyond the penisula. If you truly think about it one countries changes can drastically change another country's way for the better or for the worse debting on the change. Lastly, "But in social terms, and especially withing marriage, the Quran, like the written texts of almost all civilizations, viewed women as inferior and subordinate" was interesting because in today's society in different places around the world countries still see men higher than women. Also in other countries men still leave like thy did in the past where women attend to the men.
