Chapter 2 Documents

While reading chapter 2 documents, I found the picture of the Man from Mohenjo Daro interesting because in the reading it was said that this monument was found by archeologist that had no idea what it was, since they have never came across "warfare, conquest, or the seizingof captives; no monuments to celebrate powerful rulers". Later they came to interpret it as a powerful elite ruler who were successful and people looked up to. When I first saw the image I thought it was a statue of a rich important person who people looked up to. I thought it was someone powerful because of the way he looked. It seemed as if he was well dressed and had some sort of crown and he was well groomed. After the monument was found it had scholars left with unanswered questions, but they finally came to the conclusion that this monument was not a single ruler. It was meant to represent a small elite group of successful rulers.

Chapter 3 Documents

While reading chapter 3 documents, I found it interesting when it read, "But through war, commerce, the migration of peoples, the spread of religions, and sheer geographic proximity, some of those peoples became sharply aware of one another." I found this quote to be interesting because with all that had happen we became closer together and had an idea of where people came from and what their beliefs were. Another quote that caught my attention was, "Such encounters with strangers have long been an important motor of change in human history, as forgien ideas, dieases, goods, technologies, and military challeneges required adjustment in established ways of living." This caught my attention because it has you think about the past and how people had to go through different obstacles and new ideas for us to be were we are in society today.

Chapter 12

While reading Chapter 12, I found it interesting when it read, " Far more numerous than gathers and hunters were those many peoples who though fully agricultural, had avoided incorporation into larger empires or civilizations and had not developed their own city-or state- based societies." I found this quote to be interesting because people payed more attention to the agricultural rather than trying to make city and societies. Another quote that caught my attention was, "In Africa, pastoral peoples stayed independent of established empires several centuries longer than those of Inner Asia, for not until the late nineteenth century were they incorparated into European colonial states." This caught my attention because pastoral people stayed focused and created great things for themselves. If you truly think about it, the by pastoral staying focused the were able to set high standards and establish empires and things to make a better living. Lastly, "Farming and ...

Chapter 11 (Pastoral Peoples on the Global Stage)

While reading Chapter 11, I found it interesting when it read, "despite their many difference, pastoral societies shared several important features that distingushed them from settled agricultural communities and civilizations." I found this quote to be interesting because they didn't keep things to themselves they shared their ideas and agricultural which brought people together. Another quote that caught my attention was, "Furthermore, pastoral peoples generally offered women a higher status, fewer restrictions, and greater role in public life than their counterparts in agricultural civilizations." This caught my attention because this helped women grow and be able to have their own roles. If you truly think about it, women have came so far than what women had in the past. Lastly, "within the Mongol Empire itself, close relationships developed between the counts of Persia and China" was interesting because relationships happened outside there own and...

Chapter 10 (The Worlds of Christendom)

While reading Chapter 10, I found it interesting when it read, "In early centuries and beyond, the Christian movement was rent by theologicalical controversy and political division." I found this quote to be interesting because I didn't know that the Christian movement was that way in the past, because in today's society it is all religion and ones beliefs. Another quote that caught my attention was, "This mounting enthusiasm for ration inquiry stimulated European scholars to seek out original Greek texts, particularly those of Aristole." This caught my attention because many classes today use Greek text to teach others about the past. If you truly think about it, many students have done research and done papers on Aristole, so alot of what he wrote was useful and meaningful. Lastly, "Byzantine religious culture also spread widely among Slavic-speaking peoples in the Balkans and Russia" was interesting because its amazing how ones culture can sprea...

Chapter 9 (The Worlds of Islam)

While reading Chapter 9, I found it interesting when it read, "As in China, Muslim societies over much of the past century have been seeking to overcome several hundred years of humiliating Europeon intrusion and to find their place in the modern world." I found this quote to be interesting because Muslims today are still trying to seek place in todays society after so many years of trying to overcome the past. Another quote that caught my attention was, "It did not take long for the immense transformation occurring in Arabia to have an impact beyond the peninsula." This caught my attention because of how fast the change of Arabia impacted beyond the penisula. If you truly think about it one countries changes can drastically change another country's way for the better or for the worse debting on the change. Lastly, "But in social terms, and especially withing marriage, the Quran, like the written texts of almost all civilizations, viewed women as inferior a...

Chapter 8 (China and the World)

While reading Chapter 8, I found it interesting when it read, "The country's growing involvement in international trade stimulated important social, cultural, and economic chages within China itself. " I found this quote to be interesting because it takes just one country to grow and then other countries with try and follow just how China did in the past, however its not like this for all citites or countries. Another quote that caught my attention was, "Supplying these cities with food was made possible by an immense network of internal waterways-canals, rivers, and lakes- stretching perhaps 30,000 miles." This caught my attention because many cities in the past were in need of food and supplies and all of that was capable for these cities with the buliding of water structures. If you truly think about it is a totally different system that we use to get our everyday food and supplies to how people got their items in the past. Lastly, "This industrial growt...

Intro to Part Three and Ch. 7 (Commerce and Culture)

While reading Chapter 7, I found it interesting when it read, " These quiete-different within particular civilizations have made it difficult to devise a single, all encomposing definition of the third-wave era." I found this quote to be interesting because civiliazations made it it hard for people to come up ways for the creation for new things and thats how the third wave was created. Another quote that caught my attention was, "Economically speaking, commerce often altered consumption and shaped daily life." This caught my attention because you really don't realize all the things that we use everyday and where they coming from. If you truly think about it, our lives have all been changed by all the trading that we do with other countries to try and make better livin environments for each other. Lastly, "By the early centuries of the Common era, indirect trading connections, often brokered by pastoral people, linked these Eurasian civilizations in a netwo...
